Mount Matheson is a 1400 m high mountain in the West Antarctic Ellsworthland . It rises about two miles northwest of Mount Boyer in the Merrick Mountains .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it on the basis of its own measurements and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1961 to 1967. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1966 after the American ionospheric physicist Lorne D. Matheson, who in 1963 on the Eights station was operating.
