Mount Moore is a 2270 m high and isolated mountain in the west Antarctic Ellsworthland . Only 305 m of its total height protrudes above the surrounding ice. It is located 13 km north of Mount Woollard and around 240 km west of the Heritage Range in the Ellsworth Mountains .
An American team led by the geophysicist Charles Bentley discovered him on February 4, 1958 while crossing Marie-Byrd-Land . Namesake is Lieutenant John Pinkney Moore (1928–1955) of the United States Navy Reserve Forces , a pilot stationed on the USS Atka who died on January 22, 1955 in a helicopter crash as a result of a whiteout near Kainan Bay .
