At 3,035 m, Mount Phillips is the highest point of the southern part of the snow-covered Malta Plateau in the Victory Mountains of the East Antarctic Victoria Land .
The British polar explorer James Clark Ross discovered him during his Antarctic expedition (1839-1843) and named him after the British geologist John Phillips (1800-1874), co-founder and Assistant Secretary of the British Association for the Advancement of Science .
