Mount Russell is a 2280 m high mountain in the west of the Antarctic Marie Byrd Land . It rises in the Queen Maud Mountains on the eastern flank of the Scott Glacier immediately south of the confluence of the Howe Glacier .
The glaciological team of the second Antarctic expedition (1933-1935) of the American polar explorer Richard Evelyn Byrd discovered the mountain in December 1934. It is named after Richard Spofford Russell Jr. (1908-1984), a participant of the research trip, and his father Richard Spofford Russell (1880–1966), who had financially supported Byrd's expedition.
