Mount Samsel is a 1650 m high mountain in the Palmerlands on the Antarctic Peninsula . It rises on the north flank of the Clifford Glacier immediately west of the junction to the Kubitza Glacier .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it in 1974 based on aerial photographs taken by the United States Navy in 1966 and survey work by the British Antarctic Survey from 1972 to 1973. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the mountain in 1976 after the American biologist Gene Leroy Samsel Jr. (* 1945), who worked for the United States Antarctic Program between 1969 and 1970 and between 1970 and 1971 at Palmer Station .
