Mount Strandtmann is a 1970 m high mountain in the north of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . In the Freyberg Mountains, it rises 3 miles north of the Smiths Bench .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it based on its own measurements and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1969 after Russell William Strandtmann (1910-1996), biologist at McMurdo Station in two consecutive summer campaigns between 1966 and 1968.
