Mount Sutherland is an approximately 2500 m high mountain peak on the Antarctic Ross Island . It rises 2.2 km west-northwest of the summit of Mount Terror .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him in 2000 after Alexander L. Sutherland Jr., project manager for oceanography at the National Science Foundation , who was responsible for the operations and logistics of research vessels for the United States Antarctic Program from 1989 .
