Mount Tholus is 825 m ( 550 m according to British data ) the highest mountain on the West Antarctic Joinville Island . It rises from a ridge that extends southwest from Postern Gap .
The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey carried out a geodetic survey between 1953 and 1954. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee made a descriptive naming in 1956. The Greek θόλος ( transcr. Tholos ) means something like dome .
