Mount Vernon is a city in Mobile County in the US state of Alabama with around 800 residents. The municipal area covers 4.9 km², 0.53% of which is water. Mount Vernon is located in the northeastern part of the county on the border with Baldwin County .
The ThyssenKrupp USA steel mill ( rolling mill ) is located three kilometers north of the village, which attracted attention with high construction costs and large losses in operation and is now being offered for sale shortly after commissioning (as of September 2013). The plant extends eastward from Federal Highway 43 to the bend in the Mobile River.

The 844 people of Mount Vernon found in the 2000 census lived in 333 households; including 228 families. The population density was 172 per km². 395 residential units were recorded in the village. Of the 844 residents, more than half, 53.0%, are African American , and another 45.4% are white-skinned residents. The rest are made up of members of other ethnic groups. 34.8% of the population are 24 years old or younger, 16.7% are older than 65; the average age is 38 years.
Of the 333 households, 29% had children under the age of 18; 30% were single households. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.19.
