The Mount Warrnambool is a volcanic crater , the 16 km southwest of Terang in the Australian state of Victoria m at an altitude of 216 above the sea and 105 meters above ground.
The volcanic crater has a diameter of 1 km and a circumference of 3 km. This uneven crater ring made of tuff is 15 m high. During its volcanic eruptions it ejected lava and tuff and formed rock layers. The tuff reached a particular hardness and is therefore mined in a quarry in front of the volcanic crater . The rock layers can be viewed in this quarry.
The basalt is dated to an age of 2.2 million years and the younger basalt layers to 570,000 years. There is a fire watchtower on the summit, which cannot be entered by the public. The Princes Highway passes to the south of the mountain and can be viewed from there.
