Mount Whiting is an approximately 1,600 m high, pyramid-shaped and largely unrefined mountain on the Black Coast of the Palmerland on the Antarctic Peninsula . With steep cliffs on its south side, it rises on the southwest flank of the Rankin Glacier .
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) mapped it in 1974. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1976 after the topography engineer Ronald F. Whiting, who was involved in mapping work by the USGS on the neighboring Lassiter coast between 1970 and 1971 .
