Moussa Tondi

Moussa Tondi (born July 1, 1928 in Niamey ; † ibid) was a Nigerien officer and politician .

Life

Moussa Tondi attended elementary and middle school in his native Niamey. In 1951 he signed up as a volunteer for the French armed forces . From 1957 to 1959 he received training at the officers' school for the overseas territories in Fréjus and was promoted to lieutenant shortly thereafter . From 1959 to 1960 he went to the infantry school in Saint-Maixent . Tondi became a member of the Nigerien Armed Forces when they were founded in 1961. After military training in Montpellier , he was Deputy Chief of Staff of the Nigerien Armed Forces from 1965 to 1966 . He then received military training in Paris . He returned to Niger in 1968, where he was promoted to major and appointed military director of the Nigerien Armed Forces.

Moussa Tondi was one of the officers who deposed the Nigerien President Hamani Diori in a military coup on April 15, 1974 . He became a member of the Nigerian military junta , the Supreme Military Council chaired by Seyni Kountché . Tondi was from April 22, 1974 to November 14, 1983 Minister of Finance of the country, from January 24, 1983 in the honorary rank of Minister of State. Tondi, who had held the military rank of colonel since 1979 , retired from the armed forces in September 1985.
