Male names derived from female names or words are used here. The reverse is omnipresent.

  • Adam : from adamá (f.) = Earth
  • Ambrosius of Ambrosia (?)
  • Amin (name) (Arabic male name), derived from Amina (mother of Muhammad)
  • Andreas from andreia (f.) Bravery, ability (?) Or from andreios, -a, -on (= the corresponding adjective; this is derived from aner, andros = "man")
  • Athenagoras (from Athena )
  • Cyprian, Cyprianus , from the (female) island of Cypros (?), At the same time an epithet of the goddess Aphrodite (this applies even if the name of the island itself originated in this way). - The name of the island comes from the Greek kypron = copper, which is in turn related (probably as a term from the beginning of the Bronze Age / Copper Age) with kopron = excrement (also urindogerm . Related?), "Shit" - so that Cyprus the "Copper Island", but ultimately also the "Sch ... island" is called. Originally it is probably a color name that was transferred from the faeces to the newly discovered copper.
  • Demetrius ( belonging to Demeter )
  • Epaphroditus - after Aphrodite , in Paul's letter to the Philippians 2:25; 4.18

  • Junias , could also occur as a man's name and be derived from the goddess Juno . It occurs in Paul's letter to Romans 16: 7; Comment in the Luther translation 1984: "The Greek text does not allow a decision whether the name is Junias or (female) Junia . In the old church and up to the 13th century it was understood as a woman's name (cf. the couple Aquila and Priska in verse 3). "
  • Marian , Marianus (probably sometimes in honor of Mary , the mother of Jesus - regardless of whether the name also existed in classical times as a further development of Marius )
  • Nostradamus (civil Michel de Nostredame, 1503–1566)
  • Panagiotis (modern Greek) from Panagia = the All Holy (Theotokos)
