Mozart Foundation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mozart Foundation from 1838 in Frankfurt am Main is a non-profit foundation and goes back to an initiative of the Frankfurter Liederkranz von 1828 eV. The Frankfurter Kantorei and the Neeber Schuler Choir were later added as donors.

aims

According to its constitution, the foundation should fulfill the following purposes:

  • Financial support for young scholarship holders for up to 2 years after completing their composition studies.
  • Material support from internationally recognized composers who are demonstrably in need through no fault of their own, who have reached the age of 60 and are considered to be innocent.
  • Financial aid to former scholarship holders for the distribution of their works within 3 years upon request, provided that they can prove they have no means to do so themselves.

history

On June 12, 1838, when the constitution of the foundation was approved, it came into force. Before that, the male choir Gesellschaft Liederkranz had planned a music festival, the income of which was to form the basis of the foundation. Well-known composers such as Franz Liszt and Louis Spohr donated their concert proceeds to this cause. One of the founding members was the composer Wilhelm Speyer .

Initially the scholarship was 400 guilders , then 1,800 gold marks and was granted for four years. Today the amounts are given individually.
