The Mramornaja Stena ( Russian Мраморная стена ) is a mountain in the Tian Shan on the border between Xinjiang ( PR China ) and Kazakhstan .
location
The 6146 m high Mramornaja Stena (the summit is also called Pik Plato ) lies in the meridional chain (chrebet Meridianalny). It forms the branch point for westbound Sarydschaskette . The Khan Tengri rises 11 km to the southwest. On the southwest flank of Mramornaja Stena is the nutrient area of the Northern Engiltschek Glacier . The Karagjul Glacier lies on the eastern flank .
The mountain ridge , which is up to 6261 m high, from Pik Plato in the north to Pik 100 Years of the Russian Geographical Society ( 6180 m ) is referred to as Mramornaja Stena on various maps .
Origin of name
The mountain name comes from Russian and means "marble wall". It is derived from the 400 m high rock faces made of yellow marble .
Ascent history
The Pik Plato (Mramornaja Stena) was first climbed in 1946.
