Muhamet Hamiti

Dr. Muhamet Hamiti (born February 12, 1964 in Podujevo , SFR Yugoslavia , today Kosovo ) is a Kosovar diplomat.

Hamiti, who came from an academic family, taught English literature at the University of Pristina . After the political developments in 1989 and 1990, he decided to switch to politics.

During the 1990s he worked at the Kosova Information Center , a news agency that was supposed to represent Kosovar interests on the international stage. Hamiti also worked closely with Ibrahim Rugova and became his media advisor. Later, when Rugova became president in 2002, Hamiti became his press secretary.

After the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and the Republic of Kosovo, Hamiti became Chargé d'affaires a. i. at the Kosovar embassy in London . A year later he was appointed ambassador. Since February 2010, Hamiti has also been accredited as a non-resident ambassador to New Zealand . He is married and has two children.
