Muhammad Ali (drummer)
Muhammad Ali (* 23. December 1936 in Philadelphia as Raymond Patterson ) is an American drummer of Free Jazz .
Life
Ali worked with Alan Shorter , Don Ayler and Albert Ayler , with whom he also recorded. He came to Europe with Frank Wright's band in 1969, where he then settled in Paris . He played with Wrights Center of the World (which also included Bobby Few and Alan Silva ) for many years , but also recorded with Saheb Sarbib , Archie Shepp , Michel Pilz / Itaru Oki and Hans Dulfer . He has been playing with Noah Howard for a long time . In October 2006 he performed with Dave Burrell , Reggie Workman and his brother, the drummer Rashied Ali , who played with a similar style , in Philadelphia on the occasion of the 80th birthday of John Coltrane .
