Muhammad VI. (Granada)
Muhammad VI. "The redhead" (* 1332 ; † April 25, 1362 in Seville ) was Emir of Granada from 1360 to 1362.
After Muhammad V took office , Abu Said, a great-nephew of Ismail I , opposed him and overthrew him in a palace revolution in 1359 . However, Muhammad V managed to escape to Morocco . Initially, Abu Said Ismail II set up a ruler in 1359. He had him murdered as early as 1360 and now climbed as Muhammad VI. the throne of the Nasrid Empire .
In the meantime, the overthrown Muhammad V had received help from the Merinids in Morocco and Castile and began the struggle for power. Muhammad VI. was initially able to assert himself successfully against Muhammad V and his foreign troops, but he made himself increasingly unpopular because of his tyrannical rule. After the defection of some provinces and cities, he fled from Granada to Seville in 1362 , where he hoped for help from Peter I of Castile. However, he had him executed. With the death of Muhammad VI. Muhammad V was able to assert himself again in Granada and lead the empire to a new bloom.
