Muhammad al-Ghafiqi
Muhammad ibn Qassum ibn Aslam al-Ghafiqi ( Arabic محمد بن قسوم بن أسلم الغافقي, DMG Muḥammad b. Qassūm b. Aslam al-Ġāfiqī , Spanish Mohamed Al-Gafequi ; born possibly in Torrecampo / Belalcázar ; † 1165 , Córdoba ) was an ophthalmologist in al-Andalus . He was an expert in cataract surgery and the treatment of other eye conditions. His treatise on ophthalmologyالمرشد في الكحل / Al-Muršid fī-Kuhl , Spanish "Guía del oculista" is still as original manuscript in the library of the Escorial present.
The city of Córdoba had a bust made in 1965 for the 700th anniversary, which was made by the sculptor Miguel Arjona Navarro and which stands in the Plaza del Cardenal Salazar in the Judería de Córdoba district .
