Muir Peak is a striking rocky peak in the Ellsworth Mountains of West Antarctica Ellsworthland . In the Founders Peaks of the Heritage Range, it rises in the middle of the Frazier Ridge ridge .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it on the basis of its own surveys and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1961 to 1966. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1966 after the British aurora researcher Hugh M. Muir, who worked as an exchange scientist in 1966 of the United States Antarctic Research Program worked on the Plateau Station .
