Max Lion Tribe

Max Georg Löwenstamm (born October 25, 1814 in Trebitsch in Moravia , † April 9, 1881 in Pasing near Munich ) was a German cantor and composer .

Life

Max G. Löwenstamm studied under Salomon Sulzer in Vienna and worked in Prague from 1840 , and in Pest from 1842 as chief cantor of the New Temple. In 1847 he took up the position of chief cantor in the Israelite religious community there. His successor in Munich was Emanuel Kirschner in 1881 .

Löwenstamm was teacher and cantor of the Jewish community and led the choir. He also used his own compositions, such as a cantata for the 50th anniversary of the Munich synagogue on April 9, 1876.

He was married to Anna, nee Kohn. The sons of this marriage were the composer Franz Josef (1843-1903), Gabriel (1851-1919), and Eugen (1855-1933), who worked in Vienna.
