geography

River course

The river has its source in the Toko Range , about 10 km east of the border with the Northern Territory . It flows first to the southeast and then to the south along the eastern border of the Simpson Desert . At Muncoonie , east of the Simpson Desert National Park , it seeps into the underground west of Eyre Creek .

A few kilometers further southwest, at Annandale , the Eyre Creek re-emerges and leads its water and that of the Mulligan River - if available - south to the Warburton River . Most of the year, and often for many years in a row, these rivers lie dry.
