Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow

The Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow ( MAMM ) ( Russian Мультимедиа Арт Музей, Москва ) is a state art museum in Moscow with a focus on contemporary art and multimedia projects. It emerged from the Moscow House of Photography and the School of Photography and Multimedia and today has an exhibition area of ​​around 9,000 square meters.

Emergence

The MAMM was founded in 2001 in the Moscow House of Photography, a photography museum that had been in existence since 1996, and was reopened to the public in October 2010 after five years of renovation work. Olga Swiblowa is the director of both the Moscow House of Photography and MAMM .

activities

The MAMM aims to familiarize a wider audience with contemporary and multimedia art. Its purpose is to inform the public about important developments in contemporary art and to encourage the interaction of its visitors with its collections and exhibition projects. For these purposes, in addition to the exhibitions in its own premises, it also organizes ongoing exhibitions in other Moscow institutions, e.g. B. in the New Manege or the Cervantes Institute , in the rest of Russia and abroad, z. B. in Shanghai , Paris or Tallinn . In cooperation with the Moscow House of Photography, around 100 catalogs and themed books have now been published. An average of 30–35,000 visitors per month visit the museum complex.

The museum maintains u. a. a reference library for its visitors with publications on photography, contemporary art and the effects of art on society. Lectures on the history of classical and modern art are held in the auditorium on the ground floor of the MAMM. It also promotes the exchange of artists and photographers with other European art institutions.

location

The museum is located southwest of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and the Kropotkinskaya metro station on the corner of Ostoshenka Street (Russian: ул. Остоженка, д. 16 ) and Lopukhinsky Street. It is open every day except Monday from noon to 9 p.m.
