Alec Soth (2007)

Alec Soth (* 1969 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) is an American photographer who became known for his large-scale photo projects from the American Midwest .

Life

Soth studied at Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers , New York . He received a grant from the McKnight and Jerome Foundation and the 2003 Santa Fe Prize for Photography . In 2004 he took part in the Whitney Biennial and published his first photo book, which was followed by more over the next few years. Soth takes many of his photos in 8x10 format (see his photo with camera).

In 2004 Soth was nominated for inclusion in Magnum Photos and has been a full member of the association since 2008. So far (2011) his photographs have been exhibited worldwide. His works have been bought and shown by various museums.

Soth lives in Minneapolis with his wife and children. In 2010 he founded the Little Brown Mushroom publishing house there . His family name is pronounced like the English word both .
