The Muna-Museum Grebenhain is a museum and a memorial to the history of the Hartmannshain air ammunition plant and the ammunition plant of the German Wehrmacht in the time of National Socialism . It is located in the old school in Bermuthshain , a district of the Grebenhain community .

history

At the end of 2004, the Muna Grebenhain working group was founded to review the history of the Luftwaffe ammunition facility ( Muna ), which existed between 1936 and 1945 , from whose structural relics today's Grebenhain district of Oberwald developed after the end of the Second World War .

On the occasion of the Open Monument Day in 2005, the working group presented an exhibition on the history and subsequent use of the Hartmannshain air munitions facility in the community center in Grebenhain . The high response to this exhibition and the subsequent increasing public interest in the Muna finally gave the impetus to set up a permanent museum.

The location chosen was the old school in Bermuthshain, built between 1829 and 1830, which was extensively renovated between 2008 and 2011 as part of the village renewal . Between July 1943 and March 1945 there was a so-called Eastern labor camp in Bermuthshain for around 110 female forced laborers (→ Nazi forced labor , Eastern workers ) from the Ukrainian SSR occupied by German troops , who had to work in the Muna.

On May 8, 2011, the Muna Museum Grebenhain was officially opened. Since April 16, 2013, the Muna-Museum Grebenhain association has also been in existence , which is now the operator of the museum.

View of the permanent exhibition

In the Muna-Museum Grebenhain, the history of the Hartmannshain air ammunition facility between 1936 and 1945 and the use of the site from 1946 to the present are presented in two exhibition rooms using display boards, pictures, films, original exhibits and a model. The exhibition also includes a series of maps and aerial photographs, including a map of all the munitions factories of the German Wehrmacht.

There are also special exhibitions on a regular basis, for which a special multi-purpose room is available, which is otherwise used as a prayer room by the Evangelical parish of Crainfeld .

Branch office

On May 8, 2013, the branch of the Muna Museum Grebenhain was inaugurated in a bunker originally used to store ammunition in the former NATO supply depot Grebenhain. Above all, larger exhibits are exhibited here, which for spatial reasons cannot be exhibited at the headquarters of the museum. The branch office is the starting point for guided tours through the Muna site, which are offered by the Friends' Association at regular times and on request for interested groups.
