Mundialito de Futebol de Praia
The Mundialito de Futebol da Praia (German: Small Beach Soccer World Cup) is a beach soccer tournament of selected national teams, called Mundialito for short . The tournament was first held in 1994 on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro . From 1997 to 2004 it was held on the city beach Praia da Claridade in Figueira da Foz , Portugal . Since 2005 it has been held in Portimão on Praia da Rocha beach in the Algarve .
The tournament is organized by the FIFA partner Beach Soccer Worldwide (BSWW). It is also used by the participating teams as preparation for the official FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup .
After the first tournament in Brazil in 1994, it was not played again until 1997. The tournament has been held annually in Portugal since 1997.
Brazil holds the unchallenged record with 12 championships. Portugal won the tournament three times (2003, 2008, 2009) and the USA in 1998.
In addition to the Mundialito, the BSWW has been organizing the Mundialito de Clubes , the beach soccer world championship for clubs, since 2011 .
