The Mundipharma GmbH is a medium-sized research-based pharmaceutical company headquartered in Frankfurt am Main . The company operates in the fields of oncology , pain therapy , respiratory tract , rheumatology and wound healing . One of the best-known products is the iodophore Betaisodona ( povidone-iodine ).
history
The company was founded in 1967 in Frankfurt am Main by the brothers Raymond and Mortimer Sackler , the then owners of Purdue Pharma . In the years 1970 to 1974, two pharmaceutical companies were acquired. These were the chemical-pharmaceutical factory Krugmann GmbH and the pharmaceutical factory Dr. med. Hans Voigt GmbH . In 1975 the company moved to Limburg an der Lahn .
The first factory building erected in the Dietkircher Höhe industrial park was designed in 1973 by the renowned architect Marcel Breuer . Today the gradually expanded company premises are listed as a historical monument. The last completion of a structural expansion so far took place in 2010.
In the 2000s, the company received several awards for social commitment and family friendliness. a. from the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs. In 2015, Mundipharma received the employer seal of approval “Great Place to Work” for the third time. In contrast to the company's awards, there are allegations such as sabotage of works council work.
On March 21, 2017, Mundipharma announced that it wanted to close most of the Limburg site by the end of 2018 and therefore relocate its production and packaging - among other things - to Cambridge. The management did not initially announce whether marketing or sales tasks should take place elsewhere in Limburg, but that a target of 165 jobs was planned in Germany.
In the course of 2018, Mundipharma relocated most of its remaining employees in Germany to the Gateway Gardens industrial park in Frankfurt am Main, De-Saint-Exupéry-Straße 10. At the same time, the company focused on sales and marketing. On November 13, 2018, the register was changed to the Frankfurt am Main District Court and with it the legally valid relocation of the company's headquarters. In February 2018, Mundipharma and the company Fidelio Healthcare (Seefeld, Upper Bavaria) agreed to take over the former production facilities and employees from Mundipharma in Limburg by Fidelio. This agreement was implemented at the beginning of October 2018.
Oxycodone
Mundipharma sells in Germany - as a sister company of Purdue Pharma - the narcotic drug oxycodone under the trade name Oxygesic , which is responsible for the opioid epidemic in the United States of America worldwide - especially in the USA . In January 2019, Massachusetts became the first US state to personally indict eight members of the Sackler family of pharmaceuticals for making decisions that sparked most of the opioid epidemic.
