Moctezuma is a municipality in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí . The municipality covers an area of 1295 km². In 2010, Moctezuma had a population of 19,327 people. The administrative seat and most populous village of the municipality is the eponymous Moctezuma .
geography
The municipality of Moctezuma is located in the west of the state of San Luis Potosí at an altitude between 1600 m and 2600 m . It is entirely located in the physiographic province of the Mesa del Centro and in the endorheic hydrological region of El Salado . Geologically, the municipality is composed of approx. 57% alluvion , 33% sedimentary rock and 8% extrusive rock . Soil type of 35% of the municipality is the Leptosol , followed by 27% Calcisol , 13% Phaeozem and 11% Chernozem . About half of the community area is covered by scrub, a quarter is used for agriculture, 18% is pasture.
The Municipio Moctezuma borders the Municipios Villa de Arista , Venado , Salinas , Ahualulco and San Luis Potosí, as well as the state of Zacatecas .

In the 2010 census, 19,327 people were counted in 4,636 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 25 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language . About 12.7% of the population were illiterate. 6,326 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which approx. 80% were men and 5.7% were unemployed. Almost 34% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
