Murex is a software company specializing in solutions for trading, treasury, risk management and post-trade transactions in the financial market .

After it was founded in 1986 by Laurent Néel and Salim Edde, Salim's three brothers and his brother-in-law soon joined the company. Murex has grown organically without outside capital and employs over 2,200 people worldwide.

In addition to its main office in Paris , the company has 17 international offices in New York , London , Hong Kong , Beirut , Sydney , Dublin and Singapore, among others . Murex looks after customers in 70 countries around the world. .

The Murex MX.3 platform is used by banks, asset managers, pension funds and insurance companies. Customers include UBS , National Bank of Canada , Bank of China , OCBC , China Merchants Bank , the National Bank of Kuwait , Banorte . and ATB Financial

Maroun Edde is the current managing director.

In the Truffle 100 ranking 2018, Murex was recognized as the third largest French software company with a reported turnover of 507 million euros.

history

In 2013, National Australia Bank carried out a revision of its capital markets business with the introduction of MX.3 for the settlement of foreign exchange and money market transactions. MX.3 was introduced first in Melbourne and then throughout the international trading business.

In 2014, Singapore-based DBS took over MX.3 for its risk management.

UBS selected Murex software to replace much of its bond platform technology, including transaction booking, valuation and risk management. This was seen as a significant technological change at a leading credit institute with the aim of reducing costs and replacing a patchwork of systems with a uniform solution.

In 2016, Murex became the third largest software company in France in the Truffle 100 ranking with a turnover of 460 million euros . In the same year, Murex was named Overall Top Technology Vendor in the Treasury and Capital Markets Industry category for the third time in a row by the British magazine Risk .

Murex partnered with Tullet Prebon to use TPI data to validate internal models.

China Merchants Bank (CMB) launched Murex's MX.3 platform to optimize technology at its Shenzhen and Shanghai locations after the bank became one of the first Chinese financial institutions to join the R3 blockchain consortium.

Murex participated in the pilot project of the Teen Turn Dublin initiative, which aims to create a talent pipeline for women in STEM subjects.

Murex has announced a partnership with Microsoft to bring MX.3 to the cloud with certification on Microsoft Azure .

Salim Edde, one of the company's founders, is mentioned in the  Panama Papers .

ATB Financial began transferring its infrastructure and application management to the cloud in August 2017 with the MX.3 Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution from Murex.

In 2017, Murex worked with Amazon Web Services to offer MX.3 on Amazon's cloud platform. The Cloud MX.3 solution can be used not only for development and test purposes, but also for running production processes, for disaster recovery and as access to cloud-based managed services.

In 2018, Nationwide Building Society replaced their previous system with MX.3 in order to secure additional sources of funding, review price regulations and implement tightened risk, liquidity and security controls.

Banca IMI, the Italian-based subsidiary of Intesa Sanpaolo, migrated the equity derivatives business as part of an update of the technology architecture to MX.3.

After the successful introduction at Jyske Bank and Sydbank, the Danish IT provider in the banking sector Bankdata announced that it would extend the use of MX.3 to all other member banks. The software platform replaces several legacy systems, encompasses a complete trading cycle, centralizes risk accounting and processes trading transactions and settlements in real time.

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) has partnered with Murex to support the increased reporting requirements under the Securities Financing Transaction Regulation (SFTR). Murex's SFTR solution connects to DTCC's Global Trade Repository, simplifying reporting and reducing implementation costs.

In 2019, Banorte, Mexico's second largest investment bank, announced that it would expand the application of MX.3 to the areas of risk control and compliance. MX.3 enables the automation and digitization of the operational business, including counterparty risk, value adjustment of derivatives (XVA) and management of collateral.

In 2019, the Joint Stock Commercial Bank Ping An Bank selected Murex's MX.3 platform, which encompasses all of their software requirements for capital markets. The bank intends to close the gaps between the front and back office and to enable expansion in new areas.

Corporate social responsibility & culture

Murex participates in the Teen Turn Dublin initiative, which aims to create a talent pipeline for women in STEM (math, computer science, science and technology) subjects. In 2017, Murex took part in the Teen Turn pilot and hired several women to mentor local students on a two-week internship in Dublin. In 2018 Murex again supported Teen Turn as part of an event in Dublin with specialist mentors and FIT network members (women in technology).

As part of an employee survey, Murex was ranked tenth in the “Happy at Work” 2018 ranking by the French newspaper Les Echos.

In 2019, Glassdoor ranked Murex among the top three companies in France where employees feel comfortable.
