The Musée National des Comores , abbreviated MNC (short French Musée de Comores ; English National Museum of Comoros ) is the national museum of the Comoros in the capital Moroni on the island Grande Comore (Njazidja). It is also a department of the Center National de Documentation et de Recherche Scientifique (CNDRS), founded in 1979 , which is the supporting institution for the museum.

The museum was founded in 1988 and shows a collection of historical, handicraft, geological and natural history exhibits in just four rooms on around 300 m 2 .

The first room houses exhibits from the themes of regional history , archeology , art and religion . These are mainly photos, ceramic finds and written documents from several centuries of history. The oldest exhibits date from the 9th century. Illustrations show former rulers, their seats as well as the cities and villages. Other images give an insight into the structure of the country, the regional architecture, art and everyday objects, and there are also some religious sculptures.

In the second hall there are parts of the collection on the subject of geosciences and especially volcanology . This area contains a collection of volcanic rocks as well as aerial photographs of the Karthala volcano and the Massif de la Grille .

In the third room, exhibits from the fields of oceanography and natural history are shown. Objects from the collection of terrestrial and marine flora and fauna are exhibited here. A showcase shows endemic birds and gives an animated impression of their sound articulations. A special museum exhibit is a prepared specimen of a coelacanth ( Latimeria ).

The fourth room shows objects from the local social and cultural history . Everyday, cultural and environmental items are exhibited in this area. The visitor can find out about handicraft and production techniques, as well as the cultural heritage in the fields of folklore and traditional costumes. The main exhibit is the clothing of various kings.

In addition to the permanent exhibition areas, the museum offers a bookstore and a gallery for changing exhibitions on various topics, including current ones. The museum maintains cooperation contacts with international organizations such as AFRICOM , ICOM , SAMP and AMOI . There are also partnerships with other museums.

There are two small offshoots on the islands of Anjouan and Mohéli .
