The airport Muscat International Airport (former name until 31 January 2008: Seeb International Airport) ( IATA : MCT, ICAO : OOMS) is the main air transport hub of Oman . There are currently 55 destinations in 27 countries served (as of March 25, 2018). The airport is located in Sib (Eng.Seeb), about 25 km west of Muscat on the Muscat Expressway and the Route 1 motorway . The airport has been in operation since 1972. It was planned and implemented by J&P . The national airline Oman Air and the new low-cost airline SalamAir use the airport as a hub .

Extensions
With the construction of a new runway (08L / 26R), the airport was upgraded for the Airbus A380 ; this runway was opened for flight operations on December 22, 2014.
A new terminal was built between the two slopes and opened on March 20, 2018. It is able to handle large aircraft such as the Boeing 747 or the Airbus A380 . According to the airport, this will increase the capacity to 20 million passengers per year. With the opening of the new terminal, all international flights were moved there. The old terminal will only be used by low-cost airlines.
