The Muscat Expressway is a highway in the Sultanate of Oman . Essentially, it serves as an extensive bypass of the Muscat Capital Area and, in particular, as a relief for Route 1 . It begins in Qurum , a district west of Muscat , on Route 1 and runs through the districts of Ruwi , Bawschar , Ghala and Al-Khoudh . It currently ends a few kilometers after the district border between Muscat and Dschanub al-Batina south of the city of Barka on Route 13 . It is equipped with three lanes in each direction of travel along its entire length. The motorway is currently (as of August 2016) being expanded and continued.
