The Route 2 or R2 is a main road in the Sultanate of Oman , to be exact in the exclave of Musandam . The main road leads from the border of the United Arab Emirates to the regional capital al-Khasab . Route 2 has only one lane on each side and almost always runs along the coast of the Persian Gulf . It is the only signposted street in Musandam.

course

The start of Route 2 is the Omani border post on the border with the United Arab Emirates. In the Emirate of Ra's al-Khaimah , the R2 continues under the number E11 in the direction of Dubai . Cities close to the border in the United Arab Emirates are al-Qir and Shamem. After one kilometer is the village of Tibat . 5 kilometers after Tibat is the extensive village of Ghuma, here is the Contractors Camp Yard. After 3 kilometers you will find the village of Bucha . Bucha is the largest town on Route 2 until al-Khasab. During the next 15 kilometers there are several settlements such as al-Jadi and al-Jirri. Now the road moves away from the coast, after serpentines the town of Harf Ghabi is located. 2 kilometers further there is a junction to a gravel road, which leads to the northernmost point of the ancestral island of Musandam, there is only one mosque here. The urban area of al-Khasab begins 9 kilometers after the junction. In the meantime you drive along the rugged coast, there are only two villages, Hana and Qada. One kilometer further is the port of al-Khasab , from here Route 2 to the center is equipped with two lanes each. In the center of al-Khasab you drive through a long and magnificent forest. The R2 then ends at the Khasab-New Souk R / A. Shortly before that, the road branches off to Chasab Airport . From the roundabout one road leads further into the industrial area and another into the sparsely populated hinterland of Musandam.
