The Al-Batinah Expressway is a highway in the Sultanate of Oman . The four-lane trunk road relieves route 1 and greatly shortens the travel time between Dubai and Muscat . It begins in Halban on the Muscat Expressway and leads through the flat al-Batina plain past the cities of Barka , As-Suwaiq , Al-Chabura , Saham , Suhar and Shinas to the border with the United Arab Emirates on the route 1 . The motorway was opened to traffic on May 7, 2018.
