Muscat précoce de Saumur is a white wine variety . It was selected in 1842 by Auguste Courtiller from seedlings of an openly withered vine of the Frühburgunder variety. It is a very early-ripening variety and was therefore often used to breed new early-ripening grape varieties (→ Goldriesling or Pearl from Csaba ).

Auguste Courtiller (1795–1875) worked in the Jardin des Plantes in Saumur . Since 1834 he laid out both a flower park and a nursery on the town's premises.

Descent : Cross of Pinot × Muscat and Petits Grains

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is only woolly hairy, greenish with a slightly pink tinge. The light green young leaves are slightly hairy.
  • The medium-sized leaves are five-lobed (rarely seven-lobed) and deeply indented. The stalk bay is lyren-shaped open to almost closed. The leaf is bluntly toothed and the leaf surface (also called the leaf blade) is blistered and coarse.
  • The cylindrical grape is small and dense. The round berries are small and whitish in color. The berry has a thick skin and a weak nutmeg aroma; Because of the thick skin, the variety is easy to transport and serves as a table grape .

The grape variety ripens approx. 15 to 20 days after the Gutedel and is therefore considered to ripen very early.
