Pearl from Csaba

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The pearl of Csaba , a white wine variety , is a new breed from 1904 by the Hungarian grape grower Adolf Stark from Madeleine Angevine x Muscat Courtillier (usually called Muscat précoce de Saumur). The name is derived from the city of Békéscsaba , also called Csaba for short . However, the acceptance of the crossing partners is not undisputed. In the sources, Bronnertraub x Muskat-Ottonel is also mentioned, but this is less likely because the first-mentioned pair of parents are early-ripening varieties and the pearl of Csaba also ripens very early, but is very susceptible to frost.

Although it has been tested across Europe, its cultivation is problematic. The berries of the variety intended as a table grape are very thin-skinned, so that transport damage can hardly be ruled out. The worldwide vineyard area is estimated at around 2000 hectares , with larger stocks from Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria being reported.

Due to its early ripeness and its pleasant nutmeg aroma, it found its way into the new varieties Queen of the Vineyards , Oliver Irsay , Nero and Pearl Riesling .
