It is a new breed from 1930 by the Hungarian vine grower Pál Kocsis, which arose from a cross between Pozsonyi Fehér (white Pressburger) x Csaba Gyöngye ( pearl of Csaba ). Oliver Irsay is particularly common in the Hungarian wine regions of Pannonhalma-Sokoróalja, South Balaton (South Balaton), Mátraalja, Ászár-Neszmély. It is also grown in Slovakia , the Czech Republic and Austria (mainly in Burgenland). The wine is fruity with a pronounced, vegetative muscat note.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is slightly woolly hairy and greenish-white in color. The light green young leaves are covered with a cobweb.
  • The leaves are five-lobed and strongly indented. The stem bay is open in a U-shape. The blade is bluntly serrated. The teeth are medium-sized compared to the grape varieties.
  • The conical to cylindrical grape is thick but short and berry-like. The round berries are small to medium-sized and golden yellow in color. The berries have a slight nutmeg aroma that they pass on to the wine .

Oliver Irsay ripens a few days before the Gutedel . It is therefore considered to ripen very early. The vigorous variety produces consistently high yields.
