The Museo Botero , German  Museum Botero , bears the name of the most famous Colombian artist, painter and sculptor Fernando Botero . The museum is located in La Candelaria , the old town of Bogotá , and shows u. a. an excerpt from his creative work. It is just a few steps from Plaza de Bolívar in the city center and is part of the La Manzana Cultural district .

The museum holds a collection of Botero's artwork, including paintings, drawings and sculptures. There are also paintings by famous international artists such as Salvador Dalí and Pablo Picasso . In 2000, Botero handed over 208 paintings and sculptures to the National Bank's Cultural Foundation, thus laying the foundation for the opening of the museum. In addition to his own works, the works made available also included original works of art by world-famous artists from his private collection.

In the west wing of the museum over two floors there are 123 works by Fernando Botero. Many of the works were created at the end of the 20th century and bear his characteristic signature. The depiction of stout characters who are chubby grappling: hands, oranges, women, men, children, birds and also leaders of the FARC . Well-known paintings with exaggerated forms include Pareja Bailando (“Dancing Couple”) and Monalisa . The latter is a cartoon of the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci .

Botero's collection of pencil drawings is also particularly worth seeing. B. the portraits of the French artists Paul Cézanne and Gustave Courbet . In the exhibition area for sculptures you can find other voluminous sculptures by him such as Hombre a Caballo (“Man on Horseback”) and El Sueño (“The Dream”).

The 85 works of art by international artists are on display in the east wing of the museum. Including works by world-famous painters such as Francis Bacon , Joan Miró , Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir .

The exhibition is structured chronologically and covers the period from French impressionism of the 19th century to contemporary art of the 20th century . The museum is open every day, except Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
