The Museum Burghalde Lenzburg is a cultural history museum in Lenzburg in the canton of Aargau (Switzerland). It serves as a museum for the city and region of Lenzburg and is located in the "old castle heap".

history

The "Association for Nature and Home of Lenzburg and the Surrounding Area", founded in 1928, advocated the creation of a regional museum. In 1937 the "Heimatmuseum Lenzburg" was opened on the first floor of the old regional court, in the same year the "Heimatmuseum Lenzburg Foundation" was established. In the 1950s, due to capacity problems and the need for renovation by the regional court, the intention was to relocate the museum to the “old Burghalde”, but this could not be implemented. In 1972 the regional court had to be closed due to construction defects, and the museum property was moved to the “Schlossgut” depot.

The decision was made in 1973 to convert the old Burghalde into a museum. However, it took another 12 years and a referendum to become a reality. The break was used to specifically expand the collections, particularly in the field of archeology . In 1985 the museum opened its doors under the new name «Museum Burghalde». In the following decades the exhibitions and collections were steadily expanded. With the archive of the Hero company , the museum has had significant evidence of Aargau and Swiss industrial history since 2010. In 2009 the museum also took over the management of the city's art collection. In order to meet the changed demands of the visitors, the museum was subjected to a comprehensive redesign of the permanent exhibition with necessary renovation. The museum is now wheelchair accessible with the new lift and the leveled levels. The stairwell has fire doors. Access to the Icon Museum was also opened up.

The operating costs of the museum have been borne by the local community of Lenzburg since 2009. The "Foundation Museum Burghalde" promotes and supports the museum in matters of content.

Exhibitions

As a multi-branch building, the Burghalde Museum shows a wide range of topics and times in its permanent and special exhibitions. The permanent exhibition is housed in parts of the “old Burghalde” and the three floors of the former economic building.
