The Museum Stadt Königsberg was a museum that existed from 1968 to 2016 at two successive locations in Duisburg . It went back to Duisburg's assumption of sponsorship for the former provincial capital of East Prussia in 1951.

Lorenz Grimoni and Kant

On October 20, 1968, the “Haus Königsberg” museum was opened at Mülheimer Strasse 39. Mayor August Seeling , Consul Hellmuth Bieske , Fritz Gause , Erich Grimoni , Harry Janzen , Walther Hubatsch and Wilhelm Matull were present . The Königsberg house was replaced on December 5, 1992 by the new museum in the Duisburg Museum of Culture and City History . The second location was a converted flour mill in the inner harbor of Duisburg , into which the “Haus Königsberg” museum moved. The museum reminded of the cultural and urban history ofKönigsberg (Prussia) . The focus was on collections on Immanuel Kant and Käthe Kollwitz . The archive of the museum had literary estates and the Prussia collection of the Society for Local History of East and West Prussia. The museum had a library with valuable first editions. In cooperation with the city of Duisburg , the entire museum holdings were transferred to the Königsberg Foundation in the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft . The museum was closed on January 10, 2016. The most important exhibits are to be exhibited on permanent loan in the East Prussian State Museum in Lüneburg. The famous painting by Immanuel Kant hangs during the Kant decade (2014–2024) at the Parliamentary Society in the former Reichstag presidential palace .
