Musical instrument making
The musical instrument is the art of making and repairing musical instruments . Instrument makers mostly work in a workshop , the vocational training , like in most crafts , is organized as an apprenticeship and is often completed with a completely self-made instrument as a journeyman's piece .
The profession of instrument maker is divided into several specialist areas:
- The violin maker makes string instruments ,
- the bow maker builds bows ,
- the plucked instrument maker makes plucked instruments ,
- the woodwind instrument maker builds woodwind instruments ,
- the brass instrument maker produces brass instruments ,
- the piano maker builds pianos ,
- the manual instrument maker produces instruments with reeds and
- the organ builder makes organs and harmonies .
