The Bochum Music School was founded in 1967 and is an authority of the city of Bochum . It is one of the largest of around 1,000 music schools that are members of the Association of German Music Schools . About 8,000 children, young people and adults are taught by the Bochum Music School. The age spectrum ranges from 18 months (in the “Musikwichtel” program) to 79 years (as of 2006). The 150 teachers give around 80,000 lessons a year. The music school has a head office in the city center and several branch offices in the city area:
