Nutmeg wine

The term Muscat wine is a generic term for a particular group of wines containing a bouquet of nutmeg have. Most of them belong to the group of bouquet wines, which have their own aroma that is always the same regardless of their origin. These include among the white wine varieties

The Müller-Thurgau (Rivaner) is also said to have a - light - muscat clay. However, it is not one of the bouquet varieties, but one of the neutral varieties that do not have a penetrating taste of their own, but rather reflect the aroma of their location, the terroir .

Among the red wine varieties , bouquet varieties are almost not represented. The Aleatico, which is mainly grown in Italy, is an exception . In Germany there is only the Muscat Trollinger , a variant of the Swabian Trollinger , and the Wild Muscat , a new grape variety that is grown on the Amalienhof winery in Beilstein (near Heilbronn). This variety originated from a wild pollination of the Lemberger and was therefore also called Muscat-Lemberger.

Some table grapes , such as Muscat Bleu , also have a taste of muscat.
