List of grape varieties

The white wine variety Phoenix is a new breed of the Julius Kühn Institute , Institute for Vine Breeding Geilweilerhof . It was the result of a cross between Bacchus and Villard Blanc . Professor Gerhardt Alleweldt was responsible . The name of the vine refers to the mythical creature the phoenix , which burns to rise from the ashes.

The grape variety received its first regional approvals in 1994, after the plant variety protection and entry in the list of varieties took place in 1992 . Because of its hardiness to frost, it is grown in Germany in the Stargarder Land wine-growing region, among other places . In home gardens, the variety is also popular as a table grape due to its robustness and taste .

In 2007 the area under cultivation in Germany was 46  hectares , after the area in 2001 was 29 hectares. Small stocks are also known in Switzerland . (0.13 hectares, as of 2007).

It shows medium-early budding and berry ripeness, is winter frost-proof and highly resistant to the fungal diseases powdery mildew and downy mildew . The wine from it is characterized by a fine nutmeg aroma , is strong, full-bodied and has a fresh to strong acidity .
