Mustafa Sayar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mustafa Sayar (born April 22, 1989 ) is a Turkish mountain bike and road cyclist .

Career

Mustafa Sayar won the gold medal in junior cross country at the 2006 Balkan Championships . At the Turkish championship he won the title a year later. In 2007 Sayar won a stage of the Tour of the Black Sea on the road and won the overall standings. In the 2009 season he was Turkish champion in the road race of the U23 class and in the elite class he finished second in the individual time trial .

In the 2012 Tour of Turkey , Sayar finished 161st in the overall standings, 1:40 hours behind. In 2013 he won a mountain stage and then the overall ranking of the Tour of Turkey. His surprisingly strong performance caused the German racing cyclist Marcel Kittel , who himself was able to win three stages of the race, to express doubts and annoyance about Sayar's victory on the short message service Twitter . Sayar himself emphasized in interviews that his performances had come off cleanly and that, unlike his teammate Iwajlo Gabrowski , the disqualified overall winner of the 2012 Tour of Turkey , he had not doped . On July 15, 2013, the UCI World Cycling Federation announced that Sayar had tested positive for EPO during the Tour of Algeria in March , and suspended him temporarily. On October 31, he was fired from his team and then ended his career. His victory in the Tour of Turkey was later revoked and he was banned for two years.
