The mother oak was a tree around 1300 years old near Hechingen in the Zollernalb district of Baden-Württemberg .
The oak stood in the forest west of Hechingen-Stein towards Lindich Castle . Since 1995 the oak has been protected as a natural monument in the Middle Starzeltal landscape protection area.
In front of her was a formerly well- Thing-place of the Alemanni . With the advent of Christianity, the oak lost its importance. However, it can be assumed that the former Martinikirche, the oldest Christian church here, was a direct reference to Thing Square. This existed until the 19th century and was located at the intersection of the road to Lindich and the turn to the rifle house.
In 2014 a large branch broke off the oak. In addition, the trunk was partially rotten and the bark had fallen off, but it still had large vital areas.
In autumn 2016, the last part of the top finally broke off. Only the imposing stump remains.
