The Muzeum Gdańska ( Polish for "Danzig Museum") in Gdansk was opened in 1970 in the city's main town hall . From 1973 to 2017, several branches were established or taken over by other institutions, while two institutions were given up or closed. The museum has been managed by the archaeologist Waldemar Ossowski since November 2015 .

history

The museum was founded on March 31, 1970 and opened on April 2, 1970 in the historic town hall of the Rechtstadt . From January 2000 to January 30, 2018 it was officially the Historical Museum of the City of Gdańsk (Muzeum Historii Miasta Gdańska, MHMG).

The last branch was the Eisenhammer in Oliva from the Technical Museum in Warsaw in 2017. The Leege Tor (Niedertor) was a branch from 2006 to 2014. The Museum of Gdańsk Sports and Tourism was closed in 2008.
