The Peruvian Warbler ( Myiothlypis signata , Syn .: Basileuterus signatus ), also known as the mountain stream warbler, is a small songbird from the forest warbler family (Parulidae).

features

Peruvian warbler reach a body length of 13 to 14 centimeters and weigh around 12 to 13 grams. Adult Peruvian Warbler and young birds from the first year on have olive-green head and top plumage and yellow underside plumage with olive flanks. The subspecies Myiothlypis s. signata has a short yellow superciliar strip that ends behind the eye; the subspecies Myiothlypis s. flavovirens has a broad, short yellow superciliar stripe and narrow black side stripes on the crown. Juvenile Peruvian Warbler have dark brown plumage, the wings and tail feathers are olive and the belly area is white-gray.

The distribution area extends from Peru via Bolivia to Argentina . Peruvian warblers live in pairs or in small groups in moist forests, mostly at altitudes of 1,800 to 3,050 meters. In Argentina they can be found up to an altitude of 1500 meters.

Subspecies

There are two recognized subspecies:

  • Myiothlypis signatus signatus Berlepsch & Stolzmann , 1906 - South-Central Peru
  • Myiothlypis signatus flavovirens Todd , 1929 - Southern Peru, Bolivia and Northern Argentina

It is possible that there is a third undescribed subspecies, the occurrence of which is restricted to Colombia.
