Mykola Andriyovych Horbal ( Ukrainian Микола Андрійович Горбаль * 10. September 1940 in Wołowiec , Kreishauptmannschaft Jaslo , General ) is a Ukrainian poet, politician and human rights activist .

As a Soviet dissident and member of the Ukrainian Helsinki Group, Mykola Horbal was imprisoned and in exile several times. From May 11, 1994 to May 12, 1998 he was a member of the Verkhovna Rada , the Ukrainian parliament.

In 1986 Horbal became a member of the International PEN Club , in 1992 he received the Wassyl Stus Prize and in November 2009 he was awarded the Ukrainian Order of Freedom .
