Myponga is a small town 58 kilometers from Adelaide in South Australia in the southern Mount Lofty Ranges . The place borders on the northwest-western end of the Myponga Reservoir , a dam. In 2011 393 people lived here.

The original name of the place Maipgunga comes from the Aborigines and was changed in the course of time to Myponga, which means "high cliffs". The site is in a grassland that used to be covered with trees that were felled for the mines in the Broken Hill area . Today is a pastureland.

This area was also previously searched for ores and the rare mineral uranospinite was found on Wild Dog Hill in the 1950s . The uranium mineralization took place in the gneiss of the Barossa complex in the Proterozoic . The mining, which took place about 5 km southwest of Myponga, produced 346 t of uranium oxide with a content of 0.36% U 3 0 8 in the years 1954 to 1955 , which was produced in a plant in Port Pirie . Today there is no more uranium mining in Myponga.

There is a cheese dairy in the village, whose products are exported because of their high quality.
